Head-mounted displays (HMDs) are one of the core hardware of extended reality (XR) technology, widely used in virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR), and are changing the way we interact with the digital world.
However, with the adoption of headsets, wearing headsets can cause a series of visual health problems such as eye strain, blurred vision, and eye diseases. Therefore, through technological innovation and hardware research and development, major manufacturers are actively building a more visually friendly display interface, reducing the burden on users' eyes in the process of use, deeply integrating the industry and visual health, and meeting the requirements of high-quality development and new quality productivity.
The CTTL Terminal Labs (CTTL-T) of China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (hereinafter referred to as "CAICT") , Zhongshan Eye Center of Sun Yat-sen University, and TL Certification Center Co., Ltd. (TLC) are mainly for XR head-mounted displays, 3D viewing glasses and other extended reality head-mounted display devices.
The specification covers two evaluation dimensions: optical display and subjective and objective comfort, as shown in the figure below.
The assessment verifies the visual health of users using extended reality headsets through a combination of medical and engineering methods, aiming to provide users with a safer and healthier visual experience.
According to the "Technical Specifications for Visual Health Certification of Extended Reality Headset Display Devices", the CTTL-T conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the GOOVIS Art (model A1) head-mounted 3D display and GOOVIS G3X head-mounted 3D display sent by Shenzhen Nader Optical Co., Ltd. for testing. In the end, the GOOVIS Art (model A1) headset 3D display and the GOOVIS G3X headset 3D display were respectively awarded the Extended Reality Device Health Certification Certificate issued by TL Certification Center Co., Ltd.
Visual health is an interdisciplinary, cross-cutting issue. In this digital era full of challenges and opportunities, according to market demand and product characteristics, in order to improve product experience performance and create a better eye environment, we hereby launch a case collection for extended reality head-mounted display device visual health evaluation projects.
