Driven by the wave of digitalization, information and communication technology has developed rapidly, and video conferencing has been deeply integrated into our lives, especially hardware-level video conferencing has become an indispensable infrastructure in scenarios such as government affairs, education, diagnosis and treatment, manufacturing, and finance. On March 20, 2025, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), together with Huawei and other enterprises, officially kicked off the end-to-end audio and video quality evaluation and standard launch of the Huawei China Partner Conference 2025 held in Shenzhen.
Industry and research work together to start a new journey
At the conference, Guo Gan, Deputy Director of the CTTL Terminal Labs of the CAICT, Sang Xiaoqiang, Director of the Intelligent Collaboration Product Dept of Huawei, Zhang Xingming, Chief Technical Planner of Intelligent Collaboration, and Li Shanfu, Director of the Data Storage Standard Patent Dept., jointly promoted the starting rod, marking the official launch of this far-reaching project.
In-depth interpretation and clear direction
In the open speech session, Wang Yajun, senior engineer of the Smart Terminal Accessment Department of CTTL Terminal Labs, delivered the "Interpretation of the End-to-end Quality Evaluation Standards for Conference Audio and Video", which deeply analyzed the core position of audio and video in the conference system, and pointed out that audio and video capabilities are directly related to the conference audio-visual experience, and users expect to achieve "picking up far and hearing clearly; See clearly, see true; Smart Collaboration, Efficient Office". However, for hardware-level conferences, the current industry is faced with the dilemma of lack of unified conference audio and video quality evaluation and grading standards, which restricts the standardized development of the industry.
In order to solve this pain point, it is urgent to develop relevant standards. This standard aims to meet the diverse needs of different application scenarios for audio and video quality, and effectively promotes the progress and large-scale application of video conferencing technology by standardizing the audio and video quality evaluation and grading of hardware-level conference systems and terminals, bringing high-quality conference experience to various industries and accelerating the digital transformation of the economy and society.
Standard framework, comprehensive and rigorous
The standard covers the technical requirements, test environment and test methods of hardware-level conference terminals (all-in-one terminals and split terminals) and end-to-end audio and video of the system, and clarifies the quality evaluation and grading of terminals and end-to-end audio and video. The evaluation object not only focuses on the end-to-end audio and video quality, but also extends to the end-to-end audio and video quality at the system level.
The evaluation index framework is comprehensive, taking into account the hardware-level audio and video performance of the terminal test and the system-level performance of both parties after network transmission, and its detailed indicators are as many as 50. The evaluation method adopts a combination of subjective and objective, and the test environment, link, networking, configuration, equipment and steps are standardized in detail to ensure that the evaluation results are scientific, objective and fair. The final evaluation results are visually presented in the form of star ratings, so that users can see at a glance.
Looking forward to the future and creating an ecosystem together
High-quality audio and video performance of the conference system is the cornerstone to ensure the smooth progress of the conference. Through standard evaluation and certification, users will obtain reliable quality and stable performance of conference system products, and can get an excellent experience in speech clarity, video fluency and picture detail display. This time, the CTTL Terminal Labs of CAICT, together with Huawei and other industry and research institutions, has a milestone in the interpretation and launching ceremony of the industry's first end-to-end audio and video quality evaluation and grading standard for conference systems.
We look forward to attracting more enterprises to participate in the formulation of standards and jointly innovate the ecosystem through standard guidance. Let's look forward to the official release of the industry's first conference system and terminal audio and video quality and grading evaluation technical specifications, and work together to open a beautiful new era of intelligent collaboration.
