In October 2024, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) was authorized by the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) as an audio testing laboratory. In December 2024, PTCRB audio certification will be changed to test based on CTIA standards, and non-CTIA audio authorized laboratories will no longer be able to perform PTCRB audio certification.
Currently in the transition period, PTCRB audio certification can choose between the 3GPP TS26.132 standard or the CTIA test plan for speech performance. In December of this year, the CTIA test plan for speech performance V2.5.x will replace the 3GPP TS26.132 standard. The CTIA voice performance test program includes NB, WB, SWB handheld, and hands-free modes under VoLTE AMR and EVS voice coding. Compared with the previous 3GPP TS26.132 standard, the following certification content has been added:
- AMR NB handheld mode;
- AMR NB+WB hands-free mode;
- NB+WB handheld and hands-free mode at EVS 24.4 rate;
- NB+WB+SWB handheld and hands-free mode at EVS 13.2CA rate;
- For phones that support LTE Band14, some additional test cases from the CTIA Voice Performance Test Plan will be executed.
