The International Telecommunication Union Study Group 5 (ITU-T SG5) convened a plenary meeting in Antipolis, Sofia, France, from 13 June to 23 June 2023, jointly with the European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI). Led by the CTTL Terminal Labs and jointly written by Huawei, vivo, and OPPO, the project project L.UFCS "Universal Fast Charging Solution for Mobile Terminals" was discussed at this meeting and successfully approved.
Nowadays, the fast charging industry has long had the problem of incompatible protocols, and the inconsistency of technical standards has also hindered the long-term development of terminal green energy and circular economy. At present, UFCS, a general fast charging solution in China, is developing rapidly, and has been widely promoted as a dual-numbered group standard of China Communications Standards Association (CCSA) and Telecom Terminal Industry Association (TAF), and has been recognized by upstream and downstream enterprises in the domestic charging industry chain.
The official approval of the ITU international standard marks that China's standardization promotion work in the field of fast charging has been internationally recognized and has made positive progress. On the other hand, based on the research of this topic, it will effectively improve the compatibility of fast charging between products, avoid unnecessary waste of power supply equipment and accessories, reduce e-waste, and protect the environment.
This topic is another research topic that has a profound impact on the industry after the release of the ITU universal charger solution, and it is also the first research topic in the field of fast charging in ITU, which has been highly valued by the ITU standardization organization. The CTTL Terminal Labs will take the successful establishment of the project as an opportunity to continue to step up research in this field, promote the excellent research results of domestic fast charging technology standardization to the world, and help Chinese enterprises improve the international competitiveness of their products.
