On July 16, 2026, the Saudi Organization for Standards, Metrology and Quality (SASO) issued an official notice making significant adjustments to the mandatory implementation arrangements for standard SASO 2944:2023 "Motor Vehicles—eCall Emergency Call System Technical Requirements." The main contents are as follows: 

• The mandatory application date of SASO 2944:2023 has been postponed from the originally planned January 1, 2027 to January 1, 2028, covering all vehicle models under this standard;
• From the date of the notice, Public Safety Response Point (PSAP) testing is no longer a mandatory part of the SASO 2944:2023 compliance assessment procedure. This means that relevant vendors may temporarily exempt themselves from this test item when applying for eCall system certification;
• Manufacturers remain fully responsible for ensuring their products fully comply with all applicable provisions of SASO 2944:2023, while also meeting the relevant technical regulations issued by the Communication, Space and Technology Commission (CST), including SASO-CST-RI120 (this document replaces the previous SASO-CST-RI056).
