On August 13, 2026, the Bureau of Standards of India (BIS) issued guidance on the Mandatory Registration Scheme (CRS) under number Reg/2026/G-01, standardizing the categories of wearable glasses (such as audio glasses, smart glasses, AR glasses, and MR glasses), including:

• Audio glasses: classified under "wireless headphones";
• Smart Glasses: Subdivided into "Digital Cameras" (devices with only photo capabilities) and "Video Cameras" (devices with both photo and video recording functions);
• Extended Reality (XR) Devices: Divided into five distinct subcategories, including AR Glasses, Other AR Devices, VR Headsets, MR Glasses, and Other MR Devices.
