On September 21, 2026, India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued Announcement No. S.O. 5190(E), including smartphone screen protectors in the mandatory BIS registration scope. This requirement will take effect on April 1, 2027. From the effective date, all smartphone glass screen protectors manufactured, imported, stored for sale, sold, or distributed in India must complete mandatory BIS registration and comply with the requirements of the IS 19348:2025 standard.
