The "Smart Connectivity Without Boundaries: eSIM Navigation" 2026 eSIM Industry Development Seminar was successfully held

On August 6, 2026, the "Intelligent Connectivity Without Boundaries: eSIM Leadership" 2026 eSIM Industry Development Seminar, hosted by the CTTL Terminal Labs of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (hereinafter referred to as "CAICT"), was held in Beijing. The seminar focused on the latest developments in the global eSIM industry and the pilot commercial practice of Chinese eSIMs. Leaders and experts from various sectors, including basic telecom operators, chip companies, terminal manufacturers, and platform service providers, attended to jointly explore the path for large-scale application of eSIM technology and high-quality industrial development.

Yang Teng, Deputy Director of the Equipment Division of the Information and Communications Administration of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, attended the event and delivered a speech.

Guo Lin, Deputy Director of the CTTL Terminal Labs at CAICT, delivered a welcome speech. Guo Lin stated that with the full integration of China's eSIM market, global eSIM will enter a period of rapid technological innovation and ecosystem restructuring, with both opportunities and challenges. Next, Thier Terminal Laboratory will proactively leverage its role as a national think tank and industrial platform, continuing to build three core capabilities: First, continuously track cutting-edge eSIM technologies, deeply participate in standard setting, analyze eSIM industry development trends, propose development strategies suited to China's national conditions, and build in-depth comprehensive research capabilities. Second, continue to strengthen the testing foundation, build eSIM testing capabilities covering all categories and scenarios of mobile phones, wearables, and IoT, empower more domestic enterprises to compliantly launch terminal products overseas in compliance, and build world-class testing service capabilities. Third, build an industrial collaborative innovation platform to link upstream and downstream enterprises in the industry chain, including telecom operators, chips, terminals, and business platforms, promote cooperation and coordination among all parties, foster industry consensus, and build globally influential bridge connectivity.

In the keynote speech, Chen Fengwei, Deputy General Manager of China Unicom Huasheng Communication Co., Ltd., explained the industry turning point for China's eSIM to enter the "fast lane" in 2026, and systematically presented Unicom's "AI+eSIM" integrated development path. Li Zheng, Deputy Director of the Business Research Institute at China Mobile Research Institute, confronted industry realities head-on and proposed development suggestions such as diversifying functions, localizing technology, localizing cryptography, and localizing authentication. Cheng Guifeng, Deputy Director of the Evaluation Center at China Telecom Research Institute, introduced the innovative practices of the "WingMoment" eSIM testing system and explored the integration of ecosystem forces through industry alliances. Zou Zhongren, Executive Vice President of Unigroup Tongxin Microelectronics Co., Ltd., shared the mass production capability and security architecture supporting domestic eSIM chips for mobile phone eSIM pilots. Zhang Xinjian, Product Supervision Director for Apple's Asia-Pacific region, shared the unique advantages of eSIM in security and user experience from a global perspective. Ye Jian, Product Compliance General Manager of Guangdong Xiaotiancai Technology Co., Ltd., uses children's smartwatches as an entry point to illustrate the evolution of eSIM from a "market necessity" to "governance co-construction."

At this seminar, Duo Hao, Deputy Chief Engineer of the CTTL Terminal Labs at CAICT, released the "eSIM Industry Development Research Report (2026)" . The report systematically summarizes the latest global eSIM industry developments from 2025 to the first quarter of 2026, covering global market size and regional patterns, major national policy environments, updates to GSMA/3GPP/ETSI standard systems, current status and industry chain advantages of eSIM pilot commercial operation in China, as well as outlooks for high-quality industry development. It provides important references for government decision-making, enterprise layout, and industry collaboration.
