On July 27, 2026, Rwanda's Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and Innovation (MINICT) issued a notice stating that the Rwandan government had approved a phased plan to phase out the country's existing 2G and 3G mobile networks and transition to 4G and 5G technologies. According to the plan, 3G mobile services will be shut down on June 30, 2027, while the plan to phase out 2G services is tentatively scheduled for December 2028.
