Oman: TRA opens public consultation on UWB technology


On 6 August 2024, the Oman Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) launched a public consultation on the draft Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technical regulation and will open for public comment until 2 September 2024. In terms of standards, the draft has the following two requirements:

  • All equipment mentioned in Annex (A) shall comply with the latest versions of the European harmonized standards EN 302 065 and EN 302 500-1;
  • UWB devices for Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)/Penetrating Radar (WPR) should comply with the latest version of EN 302 066.

Oman: TRA will implement new regulations, including increased fees, updated certificate expiration dates and labelling requirements


On July 17, 2024, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Oman (TRA) issued an official announcement with the following key changes:

  • There will be a significant 150% increase in the cost of certification;
  • The validity period of the certificate will also be reduced from an indefinite period to four years. This change will also affect certificates of accreditation issued prior to this announcement, and the four-year period will begin on the date of issuance;
  • There is also a corresponding update to the label according to the above update, and the label will contain a QR code. The specific examples are as follows:

Oman: The TRA conducted a public consultation on the use of the 1980-2010 and 2170-2200 MHz bands for satellites


On 6 June 2024, Oman's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) issued a public consultation on the use of the 1980-2010 MHz and 2170 – 2200 MHz frequency bands for IMT-based terrestrial and satellite components, including satellite IoT. The TRA is currently reviewing the current and future use of the bands 1980-2010 and 2170 – 2200 MHz, assessing the current and potential future uses of radio services allocated in this band and ensuring optimal utilization of spectrum resources to meet the growing demand for spectrum required to provide a wide range of current telecommunications services and emerging technologies.
