Morocco: ANRT updates its type approval rules, influencing labelling and introducing SAR requirements


On January 20, 2025, the Moroccan National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ANRT) issued a new type approval decision, introducing new labeling requirements and requirements for the display of SAR values.

Main changes:

  • Updated labeling requirements: Labels must be affixed to the device itself in a visible, legible, and non-erasable manner; If this is not possible due to size limitations, the label can be placed on the accompanying document, packaging, or displayed as an easily accessible electronic label. The updated label design is as follows (the certificate number is in Arabic under the ANRT:

  • The Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) value is forced. Regulations require SAR values to be displayed on specific device types, including but not limited to: mobile phones, smartphones, tablets with SIM/eSIM and/or Wi-Fi, smartwatches, laptops, cellular routers and modems, walkie-talkies, DECT or cordless phones.

Morocco: ANRT issued decision number ANRT/DG/N°12-23


On June 15, 2023, the Moroccan National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ANRT) issued a decision on the approval of technical specifications for terminal equipment and radio equipment ANRT/DG/N°12-23. Highlights of the decision include the following updates:

  • 5G technology is mentioned in the decision, but spectrum allocation has not yet been clarified. Mobile operators must first obtain a license for the intended band 3.4-3.8 GHz before they can provide service;
  • 4G band allocation remains unchanged;
  • Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6E only allow the use of the 5150-5350 MHz frequency. The 5.470-5.725 GHz band is licensed for point-to-point applications.
