On July 10, 2026, Brazil officially issued CONAMA Resolution 516/2026, introducing a new framework for hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). The regulations came into effect on the date of issuance. The regulation sets mandatory limits for ten hazardous substances and establishes a new compliance framework that manufacturers and importers must comply with before placing products on the Brazilian market. Currently, a national registration platform is still under development.

The control of ten types of harmful substances will be implemented in phases:

• Immediate implementation: polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) ≤ 0.1%, polybrominated biphenyl ethers (PBDE) ≤ 0.1%;
• Effective after 180 days: Mercury (Hg) ≤ 0.1%;
• Effective after three years: cadmium (Cd) ≤ 0.01%, hexavalent chromium (CrVI) ≤ 0.1%, lead (Pb) ≤ 0.1%;
• Effective after four years: di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) ≤ 0.1%, di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (GDP) ≤ 0.1%, dibutyl phthalate (DBP) ≤ 0.1%, diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) ≤ 0.1%.
