Japan: MIC initiates public consultation on three technical requirements, including an 800 MHz broadband low-power radio system


On August 23, 2025, Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) launched the following three public consultations:

  • Public Consultation No. 2009: "Technical requirements for 800 MHz broadband low-power radio systems" in "Technical requirements for the development of low-power radio systems"; Public Consultation No. 2033: "Technical Requirements for 3D Positioning Systems" in "Technical Requirements for the Development of Commercial Land Radio Communications".   • Public Consultation No. 2043: "Technical Conditions for Space Transmission Wireless Power Transmission Systems" - "Technical Conditions for Outdoor Use of Spatial Transmission Wireless Power Transmission Systems in the 920 MHz Frequency Band". Japan: MIC has approved the use of the 433 MHz band for TPMS and remote keyless entry systems


On February 27, 2025, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) issued Decree No. 5 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications to revise the Radio Law. This revision uses the 433 MHz band for TPMS and remote keyless entry services.

Japan: The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications is soliciting public comments on technical requirements for 5G mmWave mobile communication systems


On April 3, 2025, Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) solicited public comments on the draft report of the Committee on Next-Generation Mobile Communications Systems on the technical requirements for 5G mobile communication systems (26 GHz band/40 GHz band).

Japan: MIC revised the Radio Law for the 5.2 GHz band


On December 18, 2024, Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) announced on the WTO TBT platform that it intends to amend the Radio Equipment Ordinance (i.e., the Radio Law) to promote the widespread use of WLAN systems in the 5.2GHz band, especially for aerial applications.

Japan: MIC launches public consultation on mobile and land radiocommunications


On 26 October 2024, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) of Japan launched the following public consultation:

  • Report of the Committee on the Next Generation of Mobile Communications Systems (draft) - "Technical specifications for the new generation of mobile communication systems", including "Technical specifications for the fifth generation of mobile communication systems (5G) (RedCap/eRedCap)".   • Land Radiocommunication Commission Report (Draft) - "Technical Conditions for the Complexity of Low-Power Radio Systems" - "Technical Conditions for the Complexity of Wireless LAN Systems" - "Technical Conditions for the Use of 5 GHz Wireless LAN in the Air". Japan: MIC has published technical requirements for wireless power transfer (WPT) systems in the 6.7 MHz band


On September 26, 2024, Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) published amendments to the Regulations for the Enforcement of the Radio Law on the official website of the WTO TBT. The amendment aims to introduce a technical standard for capacitively coupled wireless power transfer (WPT) systems using the 6.7 MHz band, which is expected to be used in transport robots in logistics centers. The amendment is expected to enter into force in December 2024.

Japan: MIC launched a public consultation on tire pressure monitors and remote keyless entry in the 433 MHz band


On September 7, 2024, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) of Japan launched a public consultation on the draft Land Radiocommunication Commission report "Technical Requirements for Tire Pressure Monitors and Remote Keyless Entry in the 433MHz Band" in "Technical Requirements for the Development of Low-Power Radio Systems" and will be open for comments until October 7, 2024.

Japan: MIC launched a public consultation on amendments to the Regulations for the Implementation of the Radio Law


On June 12, 2024, Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) launched a public consultation on a proposed ministerial regulation that amends the Radio Enforcement Ordinance regarding the introduction of 5G relay stations and 5G in the 4.9 GHz band.

Japan: MIC is soliciting public comments on the technical conditions for 5G in the 4.9 GHz band


On January 17, 2024, Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) opened a public consultation on the technical specifications of the fifth-generation mobile communication system in the 4.9 GHz band.
