Malaysia: MCMC is seeking input on new IoT security and privacy standards
Officially published at:2026-07-15On July 15, 2026, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Council (MCMC) solicited feedback on new IoT functional safety, cybersecurity, and privacy management standards through the Technical Standards Forum Bhd (MTSFB). The main contents are as follows:
- The new technical standard will replace the existing MCMC MTSFB TC G013:2018;
- Malaysia's existing IoT security standards include: Application Security MCMC MTSFB TC G031, Device Security MCMC MTSFB TC G031, Privacy Requirements MCMC MTSFB TC G031, and Functional Safety MCMC MTSFB TC G031. These standards are referenced in the new draft standards. Because the new standard references content from the above standards, the technical and compliance difficulties have greatly increased;
- The standard requires functional safety, network security, and privacy controls throughout the entire device lifecycle: vendors must provide long-term signed OTA firmware updates, vulnerability response mechanisms, continuous security monitoring, and fault traceability log retention.

Malaysia: MCMC sets implementation dates for two communication equipment standards
Officially published at:2026-07-06On July 6, 2026, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) issued a notice stating that two technical specifications for communication and hybrid devices will be implemented on May 5, 2026
- "Specification for Short-Range Radio Equipment (Third Revision)" (MCMC MTSFB TC T007:2026);
- "Communication Equipment Reference Requirements" (MCMC MTSFB TC T022:2026).
All subsequent related equipment submitted for certification must comply with these two new standards. MCMC offers a six-month grace period, and the new regulations will be fully enforced starting November 5, 2026. The government encourages applicants to achieve compliance as soon as possible during the grace period.

Malaysia: MCMC issues short-range device (SRD) specifications and communication equipment technical specifications
Officially published at:2026-05-05On May 5, 2026, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) released the MCMC MTSFB TC T007:2026 Short-Range Equipment (SRD) Specification (Third Revision) and the MCMC MTSFB TC T022:2026 Communication Equipment Baseline Requirements.
Among them, the main changes in MCMC MTSFB TC T007:2026 are as follows:
- Baseline requirement information (safety, electromagnetic compatibility, identification, and power supply) has been migrated to MCMC MTSFB TC T022:2026
- Added 6 GHz SRD/RLAN (5925-6425 MHz) band;
- Includes ultra-wideband (UWB) highway and rail equipment as well as 8500-10600 MHz ultra-wideband operations;
- The 5 GHz wireless LAN/wireless LAN (WLAN/RLAN) band has been reclassified, with new indoor/outdoor power limits;
- ETSI standards EN 303 687 and EN 303 883 have been adopted
- The 3400-3700 MHz ultra-wideband allocation has been removed from the previous UWB section.

Malaysia: SIRIM revises the communication equipment certification agreement
Officially published at:2026-06-03On June 3, 2026, SIRIM published an announcement on its official website numbered SQASI/CMCS/1/26/0005, announcing revisions to the "Communication, Multimedia, and Hybrid Equipment Compliance Approval and Certification Agreement" (eTAC/DOC/01-1), with a focus on updating the "Assignment" clause. The new regulations took effect on June 1, 2026. The old agreement signed by the original applicant remains valid, but all new applicants must download the latest version from the official website and mail or present two signed original paper documents to the SIRIM QAS office in person.

Malaysia: MCMC reminds UWB devices to prohibit the use of the 3300MHz~3400MHz frequency band
Officially published at:2026-02-11On February 11, 2026, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced that MCMC will cancel the spectrum allocation of 3300-3400MHz in the Class Assignment No.2 of 2025 for UWB equipment. The allocation table has stipulated that the allocation of the 3400-3700Mz band will be valid until May 31, 2025, so from April 1, 2026, UWB equipment will not be able to use the 3300-3700MHz frequency band in Malaysia, and the frequency band can be used is 3700-10600MHz.

Malaysia: MTSFB launches public consultation on three technical specifications

- Satellite Earth Station Terminal Specification, citing EN 301 441, EN 301 681 and EN 301 489 series standards;
- Free Space Optical Communication (FSO) specification;
- specification for amateur radio equipment, citing EN 300 086, EN 300 113, EN 301 166 and EN 301 783;

Malaysia: MCMC issued a notice on the implementation of the new version of the LMR equipment technical specification
Officially published at:2025-09-04On 4 September 2025, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) issued a notice on its official website under the number SQASI/CMCS/1/25/0005, stating that a new version of the technical specification MCMC MTSFB TC T012:2025 (Second Edition of the Land Mobile Radio Equipment - Specification) was officially approved and published on 26 June 2025. The standard mainly revises the frequency range (updated to 400-450 MHz) for UHF LMR devices (i.e., conventional walkie-talkies) and the channel spacing allocation for UHF and VHF.
Important time nodes and transition period arrangements related to certification (transition period until December 26, 2025):
- During the transition period (June 26 - December 26, 2025): Equipment that meets the old standards can still be certified, but the certificate is only valid for a maximum of 1 year. Certificates according to the old standard can be renewed, but the validity period is also limited to 1 year;
- After the transition period (from December 27, 2025): All new applications must fully comply with the new criteria. Existing certificates are valid until they expire, but they must meet the new standards when they expire;
- Specific certification requirements (for frequency and channel spacing):
- Case 1, the test report meets the requirements of MCMC, but the frequency band range of the product specification is wider: a configuration statement must be submitted to ensure that the default settings comply with MCMC regulations and cannot be modified by the user, and all documents must accurately reflect this information;
- Case 2: Product specifications and test reports exceed or do not meet MCMC requirements: Default settings must be demonstrated to be compliant and unchangeable through validation tests or on-site demonstrations, and all documents must accurately reflect this information.
- New mandatory interoperability requirements: All LMR devices must meet interoperability (interoperability) requirements and require connectivity test demonstrations. If the device supports both LMR and cellular networks (e.g., 4G/5G), it must demonstrate interoperability on LMR and cellular networks separately.

Malaysia: MCMC allows products that support LTE B31, B39 and NR n79 to be certified
Officially published at:2025-09-03On 3 September 2025, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) published a circular on its official website under the number SQASI/CMCS/1/25/0004. The circular allows the certification of communication equipment operating in IMT band 31 (450 MHz), band 39 (1900 MHz) and band 79 (4700 MHz), and the standards to be followed in the relevant frequency bands are as follows:
- LTE B31: SRSP MS 450 and MCMC MTSFB TC T015:2022;
- LTE B39: SRSP MS 1900 and MCMC MTSFB TC T015:2022;
- NR n79: SRSP MS 4700 and MCMC MTSFB TC T016:2021.

Malaysia: MCMC presented the regulatory framework for communication equipment and recent regulations
Officially published at:2025-08-01At the 71st meeting of the APEC Telecommunications Working Group (APEC TEL) Conformity Assessment and Interoperability Steering Group (CISG) on 1 August 2025, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) introduced the New Communications Equipment Framework (NCEF) to drive competitiveness in the communications and multimedia industry through a flexible and proactive approval process, with important changes to the way telecommunications product registration and approval are determined based on risk level. The Standards Regulations for Communications and Multimedia Technologies 2000 (TSR 2000) will also be amended to accommodate the NCEF.
The MCMC also summarized the new and revised technical regulations as of 2025, including C-V2X system architecture and specifications, network security-related specifications, IPv6, VoLTE, base station radiation measurement evaluation, land mobile stations, etc.
Malaysia: MCMC releases Class Assignment No.2 2025
