Philippines: NTC issues circular on the phase-out of 2G and 3G mobile network services
Officially published at:2025-08-28On August 28, 2025, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) of the Philippines issued a memorandum circular numbered 003-09-2025 to retire 3G and 2G services in the Philippines.
The circular requires all public telecommunications entities (PTEs) providing 3G services to ensure that 3G services are phased out nationwide by December 31, 2026. All PTEs should submit a Technology Transition Plan within 60 days of the effective date of the Circular. The plan should include a timeline for the 3G phase-out plan, a disposal plan for retired 3G equipment, information on public awareness campaigns, and details of transition support for affected consumers. The circular makes it clear that the NTC will subsequently issue guidelines on not accepting applications for type approval and type acceptance certificates. This notice shall take effect fifteen days after its publication in a newspaper with a large circulation nationwide.

Officially published at:2024-07-05Following the hearing held on May 23, 2024 and the issuance of the draft memorandum, on July 5, 2024, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) of the Philippines issued Memorandum Notice No. 002-07-2024, which amends the operating parameters of HIPERLAN and RLAN short-range equipment (SRDs) in Section 2 of Memorandum Notice 03-05-2007. The notice will take effect on July 20.

Philippines: NTC started public consultation regarding openning Wi-Fi 6E frequency band
Officially published at:2024-05-09On May 9, 2024, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) of the Philippines issued a notice of public hearing on the proposed memorandum notice regarding the "Amendment to Section 2 of Memorandum Notice 03-05-2007" to add the frequency band 5925-6425MHz for Wi-Fi 6 networks. The public hearing will be held on May 23, 2024. For the Wi-Fi 6E band, it will be divided into two scenarios: indoor and outdoor, where the allowable power is 250 mW (24 dBm) indoors and 25 mW (14 dBm) outdoors.
