India: DoT postpones the deadline for requiring manufacturers to complete Wi-Fi 6 certificate updates.

The Ministry of Telecommunications (DoT) of India notified on March 6, 2026, requiring stakeholders to complete the certificate replacement of existing products that support 5925-6425MHz Wi-Fi by April 5, 2026, otherwise the band must not be enabled, activated, or used. The DoT issued another notice on April 2, 2026, extending the deadline by three months to July 6, 2026.

India: DoT issues requirements for certified devices to enable the 5925-6425 MHz band

The Ministry of Telecommunications (DoT) of India previously issued an announcement on January 20, 2026, to use the 5925-6425MHz frequency band for license-exempt applications. The DoT noted that some products had previously received certificates which supported but disabled 5925-6425MHz. The DoT issued another notice on March 6, 2026, setting out the compliance requirements for enabling the 5925-6425MHz band under the revised regulatory framework. Stakeholders of products capable of operating in the 5925-6425MHz band but only obtaining certificates for the 2.4GHz and/or 5GHz bands should reapply for a new certificate to enable the 5925-6425MHz band. These necessary steps must be completed by April 5, 2026. The 5925-6425 MHz band may not be enabled, activated, or used unless a new certificate authorization is obtained.

India: Ministry of Communications uses the 5925-6425MHz band for license-free applications

On January 20, 2026, the Ministry of Communications of India issued an announcement to use the frequency band 5925-6425MHz for license-free applications (Wi-Fi 6E, etc.). The announcement divides this band into two categories of license-free equipment, with low-power indoor equipment (LPI) allowing an EIRP of up to 30dBm and very low-power outdoor equipment allowing an EIRP of up to 14dBm. This band cannot be used for drones, vehicles, ships, and aircraft below a certain flight altitude (aircraft above 10,000 feet can be used). The announcement also includes a type approval application form. The announcement is effective from the date of publication.

India: WPC releases NFAP-2025 for 5G/6G in the 6425-7125 MHz band

On December 31, 2025, the Wireless Planning and Coordination Authority (WPC) of India released the National Frequency Allocation Plan-2025, which allocates two frequency bands, 6475-6725MHz and 7025-7125MHz, for International Mobile Communication (IMT).

India: The Ministry of Telecommunications seeks comments on draft rules for the use of 6GHWAS/RLAN

On May 19, 2025, India's Ministry of Telecommunications (DoT) released the draft Rules for the Use of Low Power and Ultra-Low Power Radio Access Systems (including Wireless LANs) in the Low 6 GHz Band 2025. The rule applies to the band 5925-6425 MHz. The maximum equivalent isotropically radiated power (EIRP) is 1 W for low-power indoor (LPI) devices and 25 mW for ultra-low-power outdoor (VLP) devices.

Click this link to view the original draft and the comment period is until 15 June 2025.
