India: TEC extends the time limit for general exemptions for certain ERs under MTCTE

India: TEC extends exemption for PON series broadband equipment

The updates include extending the protocol test exemption period for any PON interface from June 30, 2025 to December 31, 2025, and extending the acceptance period for applicant/original equipment manufacturer (OEM) self-declaration of conformity for Automatic Laser Shutdown (ALS) or Automatic Power Shutdown (APSD) from June 30, 2025 to December 31, 2025.

India: TEC extends the deadline for accepting ILAC test reports for MTCTE certification for certain products

These test reports should be issued within two years from the date of submission to the MTCTE portal. Related products include:

India: The Ministry of Telecommunications seeks comments on draft rules for the use of 6GHWAS/RLAN
Officially published at:2025-05-19On May 19, 2025, India's Ministry of Telecommunications (DoT) released the draft Rules for the Use of Low Power and Ultra-Low Power Radio Access Systems (including Wireless LANs) in the Low 6 GHz Band 2025. The rule applies to the band 5925-6425 MHz. The maximum equivalent isotropically radiated power (EIRP) is 1 W for low-power indoor (LPI) devices and 25 mW for ultra-low-power outdoor (VLP) devices.

Bureau of Indian Standards: BIS publishes IS 16333 Part 3: 2022 Implementation Guide

The guidelines require that all mobile phones must be available in printed or electronic form (online user guides and/or QR codes on packaging) of instruction manuals in Indic languages as of 19 September 2025.

India: NCCS extends Voluntary Security Certification (VSC) for ONT and OLT
Officially published at:2025-04-07On April 7, 2025, India's National Communications Security Centre (NCCS) issued a notice announcing that Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and Optical Line Terminal (OLT) products will be included in the Voluntary Security Certification (VSC) regime with an extension until August 31, 2025. As of September 1, 2025, ONT and OLT products must be certified under the ComSec scheme by mandatory ITSAR. This notice supersedes the notice dated December 6, 2024, which allows for voluntary certification to be valid until March 31, 2025.

India: The TEC will invest Rs 250 million in a budget to subsidize the cost of testing for start-ups and small and micro enterprises
Officially published at:2025-03-05On March 5, 2025, the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) of India issued an announcement numbered 6-35/2024-CA/TEC. The announcement proposes that in order to support start-ups and micro- and micro-sized enterprises, the Ministry of Telecommunications has decided to subsidize the cost of testing for start-ups and micro- and micro-sized enterprises under the mandatory/voluntary testing and certification scheme, which will be implemented by TEC.
Subsidies may be provided for tests carried out at TEC or National Communications Security Centre (NCCS) designated/accredited laboratories, NABL accredited laboratories if there is no TEC designated CAB in India for a particular type of testing. 75% of the fee is subsidized for start-ups, 60% for micro-enterprises, and 50% for small businesses. The total cost is 250 million rupees (about 21.23 million CNY), and the subsidy will be implemented for two years.

India: TEC publishes MTCTE Phase 6 compliance requirements
Officially published at:2025-02-25On February 25, 2025, the Telecommunication Engineering Centre of India (TEC) issued an announcement numbered No. 5-2/2024-TC/TEC (Pt.1) announcing the list of Phase VI products of MTCTE (Mandatory Testing and Certification Procedure). The mandatory certification date will take effect on August 24, 2025. A total of 14 categories of products are included in MTCTE supervision, including cellular network CPE, fixed wireless telephones, etc.
