On July 24, 2026, Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) issued amendments to the Radio Equipment Regulations, which took effect on the same day. This revision reintegrates regulations for specific low-power radio stations within the 433 MHz band and establishes tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) and keyless entry systems (RKE) as separate categories of radio equipment.

Among them, the 433 MHz related equipment band specified in Article 49-14, Item 5 has been expanded from 433.67–434.17 MHz to 433.05–434.79 MHz; The frequency band range for TPMS and RKE has been adjusted from 433.795–434.045 MHz to 433.05–434.79 MHz, and the regulations have also removed the original structural condition that "the chassis cannot be easily opened." For certified old products, the original certification remains valid without changing the original operating frequency or technical parameters, without needing to re-certify.

On June 23, 2026, Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications issued regulatory amendments allowing the use of 920 MHz beam wireless power transmission systems (WPT) in outdoor environments, provided relevant technical and operational requirements are met. The regulatory amendments took effect on the date of issuance.

Following the public consultation on introducing 26GHz for 5G networks on October 11, 2025, Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) issued Ordinance No. 26 on March 23, 2026, completing revisions to the Radio Act and technical standards for specific radio equipment. The main revisions are as follows:

• Band expansion: Includes the 26GHz band and introduces new certification rules for the 22GHz, 26GHz, and 38GHz bands;
• Technical requirements: New carrier aggregation-related requirements, and updated antenna output power and radiated stray power limits;
• Transitional clause: Products that have completed certification under the old regulations and operate in the 27.0–29.5GHz band are exempt from recertification, with the exemption valid until May 31, 2031.

On November 5, 2025, Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the UK Department of Science, Innovation and Technology signed a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) for cybersecurity testing and certification. Under the Mutual Recognition Agreement:

• Products that have passed PSTI cybersecurity certification and provide online self-declaration can be considered to have met the technical requirements of JC-STAR Level 1 when applying for JC-STAR Level 1, and will adopt a simplified procedure.
• Products that have passed the JC-STAR Level 1 evaluation and have adopted the certification mark can be considered to meet the requirements of PSTI.

On October 11, 2025, Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) consulted on a draft ministerial ordinance to amend the Detailed Regulations for the Implementation of the Radio Act to introduce the construction of 5G networks in the 26GHz frequency band.

On May 29, 2025, Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) issued amendments to Regulation No. 54 of 2025 to the Telecommunications Terminal Equipment Regulations. The amendment imposes emergency cross-carrier roaming requirements for Internet Protocol (IP) mobile phone terminals, such as smartphones, to enable users to temporarily access other carriers' networks in the event of an emergency. The amendment will enter into force on October 1, 2025. A two-year transition period applies to IP mobile phone terminals that meet any of the following criteria:

• Have obtained certification in accordance with technical standards or have submitted a self-confirmation of compliance with technical standards;
• Special circumstances that may be considered with the approval of the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications.

On February 27, 2025, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) issued Decree No. 5 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications to revise the Radio Law. This revision uses the 433 MHz band for TPMS and remote keyless entry services.
