On April 25, 2025, the National Radio Research Agency (RRA) of the Republic of Korea officially announced the partial revision of the Technical Standards for Simple Radio Stations, Space Stations, Earth Stations, Radio Detection Equipment and Other Service Radio Equipment No. 2025. Important revisions have been made to the technical standards and specifications for radio equipment for low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications earth stations. The revision, which came into effect from the date of promulgation, marks a key step in South Korea's technological standardization process in the field of satellite communications, aiming to seize the strategic high ground of air-space-ground integrated communication in the 6G era.

According to the new regulations, RRA has added a new category of "radio equipment for LEO satellite communication earth stations" in Appendix 1 of the Conformity Assessment Bulletin, and updated the format symbol identification 67 of this type of equipment in Appendix 7. The adjustment is mainly aimed at low-orbit satellite communication equipment operating in the frequency band from 11 GHz to 14 GHz, and clarifies the technical requirements for its occupied bandwidth, frequency tolerance and anti-interference to ensure the efficient use of spectrum resources and the safety of the electromagnetic environment.

On November 8, 2024, the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) of the Republic of Korea announced on the WTO website the technical standards for charging and data transmission methods for broadcast communication equipment such as mobile devices and smart devices, and on November 26, 2024, an update to the circular was published on the WTO website (only editorial changes were made to Note 3, 4 and 5).

The technical standard requires that the following devices must be equipped with USB-C connectors: mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, headsets, portable video game controllers, portable speakers, e-book readers, keyboards, mice, portable navigation devices, earbuds, laptops. The scope of the device is in line with the Universal Charger Regulation (EU) 2022/2380 implemented by the European Union. The technical standard will come into effect on February 14, 2025, and laptops will require a USB-C port from April 1, 2026.

On August 23, 2024, the Korea Standards & Certification website published Circular No. 2024-71 to launch a public consultation on the procedure for evaluating the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) of wireless communication devices used close to the human body.

On April 29, 2024, the Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technology (MSIT) of the Republic of Korea issued Draft Announcement No. 2024-0479 to solicit public comments on the draft amendments to the Circular No. 2016-89 for Exemption from Licensing Equipment.

The proposed amendments relate to Article 7 of Announcement 2016-89, which requires an increase in the occupied bandwidth of certain low-power wireless devices for wireless access systems, including wireless LANs in the 6GHz band. For the frequency bands 5925~6425MHz, 5925~7125MHz, and 5925~6425MHz, it is recommended to increase the occupied bandwidth below 160MHz to below 320MHz.

On December 29, 2023, the National Radio Research Agency (RRA) of South Korea issued a circular numbered 2023-24 updating the conformity assessment rules for broadcasting and communication equipment. The regulatory amendments, which include exemptions from the conformity assessment procedure for equipment imported for re-export. The new regulation is now in force.
