On 11 July 2024, the Communications and Multimedia Commission of Malaysia (MCMC) announced that the interim type approval for IPv6 cellular devices (excluding devices with WiFi interface or IPv6 devices using other media (e.g. fibre, Ethernet LAN) has been extended for another year, effective from 10 July 2024, until further notice. This means that new Certificate of Conformity (CoC) applications and renewals are allowed, with a maximum validity period of one year.

During this provisional approval period, the applicant may take the required tests at any accredited or approved laboratory and submit a test report for evaluation by SIRIM. If IPv6 on the cellular interface or other media fully meets the technical requirements, it will be formally approved.

On 1 June 2024, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced the cancellation of the classification of fixed satellite service ground stations and ultra-wideband communications equipment operating in the frequency band 3400 MHz to 3700 MHz. From June 1, 2025, this regulatory change will directly affect telecommunications equipment using this spectrum range. Companies involved in the production, import, or use of such equipment must ensure compliance with the new regulations and cease operations in the affected bands by a specified date.

On 5 March 2024, MCMC Malaysia issued Radio Equipment Class Assignment No. 1 of 2024, which replaces the previous document (Class Assignment No. 1 of 2023) with effect from the date of publication. The revision mainly updates the relevant requirements of the 19th schedule of equipment (satellite broadcasting receiving equipment) and the 27th schedule of equipment (induction application equipment), and there is no impact on other equipment categories.

On February 13, 2024, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) reminded of two new technical specifications approved and published on October 31, 2023:

• Aeronautical Radio Communication Equipment Specification MCMC MTSFB TC T020:2023;
• Maritime radiocommunication equipment specification MCMC MTSFB TC T021:2023.

For the new technical regulations, the MCMC has granted a six-month transition period until May 1, 2024.

Existing Certificates: During the transition period, applicants can renew the CoC for a period of up to 1 year. However, as of May 1, 2024, updating existing CoCs will no longer be allowed. Instead, the existing approvals for the devices concerned should be updated and in compliance with the latest technical specifications by submitting a Parallel by Comparison (PBC) application.

New Applications: Applicants are encouraged to comply with new technical specifications during the transition period. As of May 1, 2024, full compliance is mandatory.

On 1 February 2024, the Malaysian Institute of Quasi-Industrial Research (SIRIM) issued an announcement numbered SQASI/CMCS/1/24/0001 reminding users that according to the updated Service Tax Guidelines (Garis Panduan Cukai Perkhidmatan), the tax rate for SIRIM-related services will be adjusted from the original 6% to 8% with effect from 1 March 2024.
